No, our test is not yet validated to diagnose autism. Your child's data will not be shared and is solely used for our research. Our goal is to develop a tool that assists clinicians with autism diagnostic evaluation.

The test itself will take about 20 to 30 minutes, during which your child will watch two videos lasting 5–10 minutes each. The setup and intake process will take an additional 20 minutes or less. In total, we ask for about an hour of your time

During the test, unexpected sounds are played to elicit natural reflexes. These sounds might cause slight discomfort or mild stress. However, the test is at home, includes engaging children's videos, and is quick to complete, ensuring minimal disruption for your child.

Yes, you will need access to an Apple iOS device and have the BlinkLab app downloaded from the AppStore. We will help you download the app and help you set it up. We will also make sure you receive a phonestand and headphones that fit our research requirements.

First and foremost: we handle your and your child's data with care, complying to all patient data regulations like HIPAA. The data generated from the test is anonymized before it is used in our research.

Yes, your child’s data is kept strictly confidential. We prioritize privacy and security by encrypting all collected data and storing it securely to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, we anonymize data, separating it from personal identifiers, such as names and dates of birth, ensuring it cannot be traced back to your child. The data is used solely to provide insights and improve our research and is never shared, sold, or used for any other purposes.

Assent

Please explain the below to your child before recording the video:

This is a study about the brain. The brain helps you think and move. During the study, you’ll watch 2 videos. You will hear some sounds - a bit like your headphones are broken. They may be a little loud, but we hope you will get used to them. If they are too loud, you can turn down the volume or stop. The phone's camera will record how you respond to the sound and this tells the researcher how your brain works.
